Letters
Letters are stored on Dan Writer's server. Sent privately by link: by default anyone with the link can read it, no sign-in needed. It never appears in Read and is marked not to be indexed by search engines.
In Reading mode you can choose Private: without a password, people with the link who are signed in can read it. With a password, readers must unlock it; the writer, the account it was delivered to, and accounts that kept it can still read. Searchable lets search engines find the letter, but it still doesn't appear in Read.
Public: the letter appears in Read under a pen name or anonymously. Anyone can read and report it.
Keep the management link private to edit, add a password or delete. Deleting stops the reading link; copies the recipient made can't be erased. Readers can see the edit history, so editing doesn't remove earlier text from it.
Sealed until a date
A private letter can be sealed until a date and time. Before then, the recipient only sees the envelope, the sender's name and the opening date; the body, photos, signature and print view are locked on the server, even for the account it was delivered to. The writer can always read it and unseal early, but can't reseal a letter once it's open.
Accounts
Optional. Used to remember your signature, keep letters you receive, and edit letters you wrote while signed in. Web: email + password or Google (X / LinkedIn when enabled). iOS app: email + password or Sign in with Apple.
Delete your account: web — Settings; app — Me tab → Delete account. Your profile is removed; sent letters still open with their old links.
On your device
Unfinished drafts, edit keys (?k=), theme and text size live in your browser — we never sync your phone contacts.
Friends
The list at Friends is inferred from letters: in-app delivery, keeping a letter, or opening a link while signed in. No manual following, no emails shown.
What we don't do
- We never turn private letters into a public feed.
- No likes or comments on letters.
- We don't sell your letters.
- No ads, no tracking tools.
- No AI writes or reads your letters.
